The Belogradchik Rocks and the Magura Cave are the natural wonders that the Bulgarians have chosen to be included in the UNESCO list under the “Natural Heritage” Category. The beautiful dolls made from dry leaves by children from the Plovdiv region using an old tradition have won the first place in the Nonmaterial Heritage Category. These are the results of the national vote for the Miracles of Bulgaria, which was closed on October 3, at exactly 18:00 hours.
More than 500,000 Bulgarians cast their votes in the second round of the patriotic campaign organized by the Standart Newspaper, by which the country specified its nominations for UNESCO. The results were announced at a grand spectacle in the crowded Hall No 1 of the National Palace of Culture by the Chief Editor of the newspaper Slavka Bozukova. “Bulgaria is really a wonderland. Wonders are everywhere around us, all we have to do is show them to the world. Because people who do not respect their past, have no future,” said Mrs. Bozukova.
