2013 will mark the 90th anniversary since the death of Naycho Tsanov – founder and leader of the Radical Democratic Party in Bulgaria and an MP for more than 25 years. He was born in Vidin in 1857 and is known as the first advocate of morality in politics and freedom of speech in the country’s history. He was also the younger brother of Ilia Tsanov, who in turn is known as the first ombudsman in our country.
13 years ago the bronze bust of Naycho Tsanov placed atop his monument in the Danube Park, was stolen and destroyed. This is the place where his remains were reburied in 1947. In view of the 90th anniversary since his death, and Initiative Committee involving Vidin’s Mayor Gergo Gergov, the MP’s Vladimir Toshev and Lyubomila Stanislavova, the chair of the Radical Democratic Party Zahari Petrov, prominent scholars and public dignitaries, is raising funds to restore the bust-size monument of this notable Bulgarian.
