The project to turn the historical fortress Kaleto into a tourist attraction was presented in Belogradchik. It envisages facilitated access to the historical site through major repairs of the access roads, and the launching of an amusement ride driving passengers from the city center to the main gait. The Project will be funded under the Operational Program Regional Development with BGN 2,9 million.
Over 24 months an info center will be developed next to the fortress. The building will be made of stone in unison with the fortress walls and the nearby. In time visitors will be able to also see a spectacle through sound and light. This, however, falls under another project.
Renovation of the fortress is an important part of turning Belogradchik into a major tourist destination, announced Boris Nikolov, the municipality mayor. This transformation is counted on to help develop the small and medium businesses, as well as upgrade the quality of life in the town.
The project also envisages a new advertising campaign to promote the fortress and the tourism offering, explained Alexandra Tsvetkova from the Standard Publishing House. The rocks and other landmarks of Belogradchik garnered the most votes in Standard Daily’s campaign to determine the wonders of Bulgaria, she reminisced.
